I am teaching Japanese which you can use in your daily life and my lesson is mainly on conversation.
I believe it is meaningless if you cannot speak Japanese even though you can make sentences in Japanese.
When comes to learning a language, I believe everyone has different goals.
So I would usually try to find out student's purpose of learning Japanese before starting a lesson.
If student had already at an advance level, I will speak only Japanese as much as i can during lesson.
As for beginners, I will teach basic Japanese with English written materials, I will explain in English too.
Usually student will be able to speak Japanese in a simple and basic conversation after 150 or 200 hours of lessons.(Duration can be shorter depend on student's effort)
[Beginner]
I can teach students with any materials provided by them.
I would usually use my recommended "GENKI" for basic lessons if students do not have any preference on materials.
i think it is the best English written materials for Beginner study.
For a start, students have to learn Japanese characters, "Hiragana"and "Katakana".
As for Kanji (Chinese characters), I would not teach students unless they really want to learn.
I would suggest students to learn Kanji little by little even if they are not very keen in learning.because I think Kanji is very helpful when learning vocabularies.
[Advance]
There are many type of lessons depends on student's purpose.
For example; if you just want to improve your Japanese, we can talk about some topics during lesson and we can focus on some grammars or words you do not know.
Then, I explain and get students to make some sentences of the words or grammars they are not familiar with.
If you want to pass JLPT test, I would usually use passed exam text paper as reference to teach students. We discuss and I will explain anything that students do not understand.
Such a lesson, focus on understanding and applying, not so much on remembering.
And if you are someone who likes writing, you can write some essay.
I can make correction and try to perfect your grammar and sentences making.
As you can see, this is the advantage of one to one lesson.
Such lesson is catered to individual student's need, preference and purpose which is different
from taking lesson in a big group in some language school when the teaching style and materials are fixed for all.
My advice for students, for any language learning, most importantly, you must enjoy it with passion and continue learning it for a period of time.
I will do my best to create good learning lesson for my students.
Please email me if you are interested on my lesson.
